Aftercare

Proper aftercare is key for a clean and beautiful healed result. Although touch ups happen and are not uncommon, following these steps will hopefully help avoid the need for a touch up.

There are two types of aftercare methods I generally use:

driloc pads or a second skin product like saniderm or recovery derm shield.

Dri Loc pad: remove the bandage when you return home or up to 4 hours after the appointment.

Second skin product: leave on for at least 24 hours as long as no irritation is occurring. Leave on up to 5 days if it stays. To remove the second skin, stand in the shower and pull the corners of the derm away from the center. Pull like you would on a command strip (the wall hanging strip/hook combo). The warm water should help lift off the product and being in the shower will give the trapped fluids a place to go.

For Dri Loc's and If you remove the derm product after 24 hours, follow these directions:

  • wash the tattoo with a mild unscented soap and clean hands.

  • pat dry with a clean paper and apply a small amount of aquaphor. Rub the product all the way in so your skin is hydrated but not coated in a layer.

  • repeat this process (wash, pat dry, aquaphor) a 2-3 times a day for 3 days.

After 3-5 days and for the next two weeks wash the tattoo and use an unscented moisturizer as needed.

Your tattoo will heal very similar to a sunburn. Please avoid water submersion, saunas and tanning for the next two weeks. These things can cause the tattoo to lose pigment during the healing process. When you no longer have any peeling or textured skin you can return to normal activities.

Your tattoo will be sensitive to light so please wear a something that covers your new tattoo if you will be outside. Loose clothing should be all that's needed.

Please do not pick at your healing tattoo and allow any flaking skin to come off on its own/during washing and moisturizing.
